Future Cars
General Motors (GM) has been absolutely transparent when it comes to new product shows, the choice to show everything you can about a future product, even before entering production. This move by GM intends to bolster the confidence of consumers and shareholders, providing evidence that the manufacturer car going in the right direction by building smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles.
Presentation of the Chevy Cruze
One of the cars that GM's influence in the coming years is the Chevrolet Cruze (pronounced Cruise) a compact car a little more larger than the current Chevy Cobalt. At first, it seemed that GM replace the Cobalt with the Cruze, but after August 2008 the press revealed in Lordstown, Ohio, administration indicated that cobalt can be welded as a separate model.
Regardless of where GM is the Cobalt, the Cruze is the car that could make or break the car manufacturer when it goes on sale in Europe starting in the spring of 2009 followed by his debut in the U.S. a year later. Although the U.S. model probably will power train that offers something different than the European market to see, GM says the Cruze will still have at least 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Not bad for a petrol model, putting it in the territory of the tiny Smart Fortwo, while providing a larger and safer car.
Excellent engine, transmission options Media 40 + MPG Highway
GM says the Cruze will be available with 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp) and 1.8 liters (140 hp) petrol engines with variable valve timing (VVT) on both sides of intake and exhaust. This gives the car extra power and better fuel economy while producing lower emissions. The automaker's new 2.0-liter turbo diesel, developing 150 bhp more power is added to fuel even greater frugality. Five-speed manual transmission is standard but an optional six-speed automatic transmission, offering round the Cruze. The choice of transmission the latter is unusual as it is the first time you use a six-speed transmission in the compact car class.
Interior design is preserved a bit of mystery, which GM plans to talk more about the car when it makes its official debut at the Paris Auto Show in September 2008. Seating for five occupants is likely that with optimum capacity for four adults.
Customers will be attracted to the Cruze? That remains to be seen, but with his bow the roof line and coupe proportions, Cruze certainly has a sporty, something lacking in most cars of its size.
